Although the nesting of barn swallows has adapted to the hu- man-built environment, within 10 years almost half of their po- pulation has disappeared from different areas in Europe, which may stem from several factors. There is a need for a more ef- fective restriction of plant protection products and mosquito control chemicals, which are poisonous to the population of arthropods that serve as food for swallows.
